Last season at Wantage now last night at Banbury gangs of ladz turning up to attack our fans , this is proper fans getting attacked not hooligan types . Don't know which club they are supposed to support but if they are Oxford fans then they obviously have a problem with us or maybe they are a bit backwards

I popped down to this as I live in Banbury and as I am one who has had prior experience of issues with Hereford at Salisbury I would normally be the first with an axe to grind........however

To me it seems that this was Oxford "fans" looking for bother, even if not it was definitely some with local knowledge as they knew to double back along the canal to try to get behind the crowd that were stopped by TVP until they had dispersed. It was the usual yoof and middle aged should know betters in hoodies and Kagools looking for a bit of hold me back action.

Okay, I'll bite! Why do you think they were Oxford fans? I'm an Oxford fan born and bred and I wouldn't have a clue how to find my way round the Banbury ground let alone 'double back'! Why not MK 'fans' (ah, ok, I'm being silly there!) or Brum 'fans', or Villa 'fans'? Or Chelsea 'fans' (as in watch all their games on TV). Or were they just local chavs acting BBB like the ones from BBL because they heard about the previous stuff about Hereford? Why on earth would Oxford 'fans' give an iota of a shit about Hereford 'fans' being in Banbury?

Well I recognised a couple from working in Oxford and they were Oxford accents, especially the ones coming up from the canal. Ok they may not have been Oxford fans but there was a lot of Banbury regulars talking about rumours of Oxford fans coming up.

Edit. But I agree it could equally have been local chavs, or Didcot chavs (or players)......

It's a fair question.

At one point during the game a chant of we hate Oxford (chanted by about 4 probably) was heard from the home area.

Doesn't really matter though. If they are / were claiming to be Oxford fans I don't hold that against Oxford united and they certainly don't represent supporters of your club. Same goes if they were just locals turning up at Banbury United for the first time in ages.

Much more public drunkenness in York of a Saturday night, from what I saw. Mind you, it's okay because I left the following day it does have a fine assortment of pubs. Lovely city, but really doesn't belong in the North. I've long advocated a swap with Luton, which clearly does.

F.king hell mate, that was 14 years ago and rightly and thankfully action was taken.

Your comment above mentions this division, where we've only had a few games. I assumed you were commenting generally on our recent history (even the past few years of HUFC) where, mostly, things have been pretty good.

Playing in pub leagues we've had some issues with drunkenness and kids showing off and acting like twats, but there's been no serious hooligan issues.

We have plenty of old school who will stand firm when necessary (there was an issue in a pub in Salisbury city centre last season, for example, totally instigated by locals) but I'm not aware of groups of Hereford fans travelling away to cause trouble for a long time.

During first half some locals (some in colours) were giving a bit more than just normal banter in the ground. But they were largely ignored, assumption being they were peed off as we were housed in their end.

Afterwards a group of perhaps 20 or so (none in colours) were doing the normal gesturing and hold me back stuff.

Again, by and large, our lot just laughed at them as a handful of cops encouraged the numpties to move on.

Was a bit of a pain though as it then took a while to get away.

Didn’t your lot cause problems such as at bideford and didcot last season? Sometimes reputation brings out the local idiots.

Hereford fans didn't cause any problems at Bideford. A few local Plymouth fans turned up and joined the usual Bideford SEN to provoke Hereford's supporters. They were very well-behaved at Barnstaple too.

Thanks.

Like most clubs we have / have had our share of troublemakers over the years.

Will condemn when it happens, but will always defend the vast majority who are no problem and correct lazy or malicious reporting like at Didcot.

Sadly large away numbers will bring the Muppets out coupled with the previous media coverage made this inevitable.

I'd be interested to know how this is 'reported'. Our fans 'rioted' at Didcot, 'women and children were attacked' etc.

There was enough twattish behaviour to make a headline without total fabrication

Didcot a couple of eejits ran on the pitch and have been banned by our club. Their players are the ones in court for alleged violence.

At both Wantage and Bideford some locals tried (and failed) to cause trouble.

Ah ok. Sometimes just taking large numbers brings out the local loons. We’ve not had any problems at kettering since we left the conference but you’ll probably have by far the biggest following to come here. The ground is very basic with no segregation so hoping things don’t go wrong.

Segregation caused it last night imo.

Upset some of the locals and probably helped get the word out to the undesirables.

It also means it's obvious which team you support as you leave the ground.

This of course is well documented.

www.somersetlive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/yeovil-town-supporters-officially-among-300423

If only Hereford ever had any articles like that about them ....

Not quite sure why it wont load, but the headline is

Why Yeovil Town supporters are officially among the best behaved in England
Yeovil were one of only five EFL clubs – the others being Accrington Stanley, Burton Albion, Fleetwood Town and Morecambe – who had no supporters get on the wrong side of the law.

There were also no banning orders handed down to Glovers fans during the campaign, making them one of just 18 sides not to see any new supporters stopped from attending matches by the courts.

In total, just one Yeovil fan has a pre-existing banning order, with just five clubs having a better record with their long-term fan behaviour

It's easy to be well behaved when you only take 27 fans to an away game.

I could do an auto Phil with that list of clubs.

But good to hear.

My experiences of yeovil back in the day were not so friendly, several games surrounded by unpleasantness and it was 'supporters' of both.
