Supporters in disarray, openly walking out and snubbing the board, strong rumours of cash running out etc etc

How is Showaddywaddock these days?

Remember that game well, bizarrely that incident wasn't the craziest thing that happened that day. Mike Fowler and Curtis Woodhouse being sent off for fighting and alledgedly carrying the fight on in the dressing room area. With Fowler apparently getting the better of future professional boxer Woodhouse!

Been reading some interesting comments on your forum/twitter/facebook etc about Garry Hill the hoofball manager. Can't say he ever used long ball tactics except when we were shit and ran out of ideas. With the squad you have, there's no doubt in my mind, he'll do well for you.

Would also add that I don't think he's the same headbutting hooligan he once was. Can't say there were any incidents whilst with us, except for a comment or two in his post match interviews.

I'm not too concerned about the football side of things, more his past infringements.

He’s a good manager and will try to build a rapport with the fans. Back him and he’ll create a siege mentality between the club outward. What he won’t do is develop young players - he’ll want ready made talent alongside loan players who are already tearing it up at U23 level.

I guess the watch out is that our last 18 months with him, he’d run out of ideas to the naked eye. He got more and more duds vs hits on loan, but more importantly spent too much time complaining about his budget. He claimed that he never wanted to leave and that he’d stay regardless of budget but he went too far the other way in public.

Be interested to see who he gets in as #2 - he went straight for woking legend Steve Thompson with us, which immediately built bridges for most except SimonB.

Edit: he may also immediately try and sign Ben Smith, regardless of how old he is now.

He was Daggers manager during Boston’s brown envelopegate.

We had some amazing FA Cup runs - 3rd round, 4th round
Lost promotion to the football league v Doncaster on a golden goal
Finished second to Boston when they started life in the football league on minus 4 points.

Has he?

Apart from his hitherto most recent managerial stint (at Woking), the clubs that I most associate him with are Hornchurch, Weymouth and Rushden & Diamonds. All of whom subsequently encountered severe financial problems.

Isn’t he more-or-less the non-league Harry Redknapp? (Even down to his seemingly unconditional love of certain players, i.e. for Niko Kranjcar read Ben Smith).

Daggers & Heybridge as well as us.
Not sure about his time at St Albans.

Garry will spend the money he's given, the issue we had was that as he got more successful he wanted more money to push us on.
In the end our finances couldn't match his ambitions.

He didn't seem to be in it for personal gain as he was donating quite a bit each month to our Boost the Budget scheme.

And it just so happens that he’s managed some of the most financially reckless non-league clubs of recent times! (His spells at D&R and St Albans were 15-20 years ago.)

Can he be successful without a boatload of cash? I suppose we’ll soon find out, assuming that Ebbsfleet’s money problems haven’t miraculously disappeared.

(I wasn’t suggesting, BTW, that Hill has bank accounts in his dog’s name or suchlike.)

His spells at financially reckless clubs were well over 10 years ago and he hasn't managed at Farnborough or Aldershot.

He didn't have a boatload of cash at Woking.

Chairman spunking loads of cash they don't have can't really be laid at a manager's door.
