Applied for Budapest after last nights win for the Magyars.

Then St Petersburg and Baku because it means VISA Free travel, and I've loved the past two years in Russia.

As seen this season with the UEFA caup final, it just won't happen will it?

Which is why I've chosen the first game there on Day 2 of the tournament. :)

And they had about 3/4 weeks to sort it didn't they?

Around 10,000 fans+ of two teams will have that dilemma though. I'll be applying for QF tickets through the England Supporters Travel Club, which will give me a ticket to the game wherever it is (if i get one). Win the group and we're in Rome, fine. Come 2nd in the group and we're in St Petersburg. Trickier but probably doable. Be one of the 4 best 3rd places and we could be in Baku. Not happening. But i won't be able to return or sell on the ticket, and with everyone else from any nation other than Azerbaijan or Russia maybe having the same problem that QF is going to be a half-empty farce.

Out of interest, why are you looking to travel across Europe/Asia to see some random teams play?

The only major tournament I've attended is Euro 96. For all the other WC in europe and Euros I've annoyingly either never had the money at the time tickets came out or when the tournament came round and I really want to do one. I've got a little cash saved, so I thought I'd take a punt on some tickets.

As for the venues, they're less likely to sell out and all start at 30 euros a ticket. All the others are 50 euros for the lower categories. Baku & Bucharest are just places I thought might be interesting to check out alongside the football, plus the missus is never likely to want to go to either place. Whilst I've done Budapest with her a couple of years back and it was cool, I fancy a return in a more mates\boozing type scenario.

Bit of adventure innit.

Fair enough, it will be good. :-)

I was just expecting that everyone would be going for the England games at Wembley and very few heading off into Europe for the group stages, and it being a bit weird not going abroad somewhere for it.

My days of caring\being emotionally invested in England are long gone. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to see em performing well under Southgate and I know loads of lads who do follow religiously, so I'm happy for them. But it just doesn't mean anything to me any more.

Boondocks v Back of beyond in the arse end of nowhere just appeals to me far more these days. Hope I get what I applied for, should be fun. :)

I think a mate of mine went to watch something like Faroe Islands v another minnow once in an international qualifier. Don't think he spread news about it. He told me because he knew it's the sort of thing I'd be jealous about.

I'm acquainted with mostly sports mad idiots, so this sort of nonsense usually gets a nod of approval or pub recommendations as one of the bastards has been there before me. :)

Might just stick to a few jaunts up to Hampden.

I considered Bilbao, but the missus really wants to go there, so she'd have killed me if I'd buggered off there in the summer for football and not with her. :)

Copenhagen also crossed my mind, but already been there and it's chuffing pricey.

Went to Bilbao with ‘er indoors in October. Loved it.

Copenhagen’s one of those that we both fancy doing but not desperately so we’ll probably never get round to it.

It's def worth doing, lovely city. Just take plenty of the pounds with you. Cheap to get to and relatively so to stay in, but the cost of eating and drinking will make you weep. :)
