Basically we made 5 changes and the replacements were shit. Warren, Fisher, Dogger, Utsire.

But we did have a player come on aged 15 years and 7 months. Ben Chrisene, remember the name.

Scored our first goal of the season (and what a goal!).

Then we conceded twice in around ten mins to start the second half to lose 2-1.

Three defeats from three games.

Four players went off injured.

Cannot wait to go to Orient on Satdi with 8-10 players injured, zero confidence, and where we always few thumped (3-1, 3-0, 3-0, 2-0 last few years).

D&R, right?

Why has Harold Odametey not been playing?

I heard that Peter Taylor called Alan Dev, after the first game of the season, and the conversation went something like this:

PT: “You were right, Harold isn’t a centre midfielder”

AD: “I did tell you, Peter, at the end of the day”

Thanks Christopher. You’ve just described something I saw right in front of me. It wouldn’t have been lucky if something else had happened, but as the thing you described didn’t happen, I’ll stick with my initial judgment of what happened and continue the opinion that it was lucky - because not many players can cushion a ball on their back, tread on it and end up backheeling it past a full time keeper on purpose.

Sure, but it wasn’t lucky in terms of ‘out the blue, undeserved freak goal’.
It was a good cross that Tarpey would almost certainly have scored if Meite hadn’t got in the way (then fortunately contrived to avoid Tarpey’s rage by bizarrely fluking it in)

1-0 League Cup win at home Vs Peterborough in a repeat of the weekend score. Peterborough will not like seeing Cameron Brannagan in a line up against them as he again got the winner but it was in the 87th minute this time.

We made 7 changes from Saturday whereas Peterborough made 5 changes (but 2 of them came on at halftime on Saturday). Peterborough started with Eisa (who cost £1.2m or thereabouts) and Toney (they turned down £4m for him) again but they still couldn't break us down.

Sadly, one of our youngsters Malachi Napa, who has just properly got back from a bad infection from last season appears to have suffered a major injury.

Edit: Celtic fail in the Champions League again.

I am enjoying the start, but I think a title challenge will be out of reach.

The defence is excellent, Winnard was plucked from League 2, Astles was Chester's captain in the National League. Ogle is on loan from Accrington and is far too good for this league but is here because Watson and Coleman are bum boys. Doyle was getting good reviews at Maidstone in the league above last season.

The issue is we only have two strikers on the books, and I mean two strikers. No back up kids or loanees, no midfielders who can also play up front... just two frontmen.

We'll see what happens!

Will instruct McNulty to cripple your two forward lads then.

Biggest worry for me will be breaking down sides. We're fine once we get the breakthrough but Farsley showed where we can improve.

Still, things are looking up. Last season we'd have lost to Farsley, drawn against Brackley and probably lost to Alty having gone behind too. Next two games will tell us a lot, Leamington must be pretty "agricultural" given they've had 4 reds in 4 games, so need to stand up to that, then an awayer against fancied Spennymoor. Take 4 points from those games and I'll be delighted.

It's wide open this year. There is no Salford, Fylde, Fleetwood buying the title. York are understandably favourites but it's a lottery who else you put up there. Bookies seemed to reckon Chester, but they're a team of old crocks who must have an average age of 37. Teams like Southport, Alty, Kiddy must be looking at this season and be thinking they're never going to get a better fucking chance.

All being well I plan to be at Bootham Crescent for next month's title decider, so can have a good look.

Yeah i agree but also there doesnt look any pushovers (bar Blyth and BPA). Was looking through our fixtures and i was struggling to think "definitely win there". Brackley, Alty, Kiddy, Chester, Southport, York, Spenny, Hereford and Guiseley all could have a chance. Then you've got places like Darlo, Gateshead, LSpa, Kings Lynn, Boston, Telford, Alfreton and Farsley which will all be tricky places to go.

Open but tough league

I was particularly erotic tonight if I say so myself.

Morgan and Correia's goals were both absolute belters. We played superbly first half on an absolute cabbage patch of a pitch and just blew them away - Correia makes such an enormous difference. I said playoffs at the start of the season but have been pleasantly surprised by the last few - I agree we will need another forward option. Marcus Wood was in the stand for some reason - good player, although possibly the last area we actually need to strengthen.

Top of the Southern bit. Long way to go but impressive start. A game on paper I’d expect us to win, mind. Those coming back from injury are going to find it hard getting back into the team.

They scrapped an away goal in the first leg. Win and its Young Boys and a guaranteed entry into on of the group stages.

Lose and I'm spending my birthday in Helsinki away at HJK.

Important day with so many matches so early in the season, the picture starts to take shape.
Tonight’s the biggest game in Chesterfield’s history too, obvs.
