Trying not to be NEXT. Record low demand on the grid due to covid and sunny windy weather risks shutting down small wind farms.

Octopus energy have decided to pay me and other customers for using as much electricity as we can tomorrow afternoon. Time to leave on all the lights and mine Bitcoin.

My energy prices have halved with Bulb in last 2 months (not based on reduced usage due good weather - but estimated drop over the year).

While we're all stuck here though, someone's going to win big in the domestic holiday market this summer, surely? SamBee should reorientate the business from SE Asia trips towards Travelodge weekenders.

This is massively sad, but expected. A mere 2,500 jobs, hundreds of thousands to follow in the industry when the furlough rules change. I know a well respected luxury tour operator that closed their doors and sent everyone home redundant 4 weeks ago, only have not declared in administration as the banks & CAA can't actually get through to confirm. I think the owners literally just walked off.

Shearings owned some amazing hotels in the UK, proper actual physical assets they can borrow against, trouble is the PTR destroyed them, as it will do many others in the months to come.

I've spent the day drinking 57.3% gin and comparing notes with friends in other companies. It's going to fall like a pack of cards.

Would be Hays. They are in a good financial position, don't own an airline, furloughed most of their staff and will make thousands redundant. They'll be fine. Be a bugger to be a Thomas Cook ex-staff who just got employed by then though.

Our next trip would have been our 20th with them. The loss of our holiday is nothing to the fact that 2,500 jobs have been lost. Also a lot of hotel staff lived on the premises so they are now without accommodation. The Victorian hotels had a certain charm to them and the lifts were small to say the least ( the one in Strathpefer springs to mind ).

Will people need to travel as much as before? Maybe not quite as much, but still fairly high.
Will people want to travel as much as before? Probably a high percentage of people will.
Will people be able to afford to travel as much as before? Who knows, but I wouldn’t be confident that they will.

What a lovely place. Wouldn’t mind returning to there again, although I actually did ten years later when we faced Bournemouth in FA Cup tie which we eventually won.

I really liked Weymouth. The only downside was the large number of homeless on the front (like many seaside towns), though in Weymouth they were just scruffy and depressing rather than drunkenly intimidating/annoying like in Hastings.

More likely to get money off people at the seaside than grumpy commuters?
Also lots of benches, often under cover and relatively quiet at night, and more and better public toilets.
And better to be homeless looking at the sea than the back of an Argos!

And the tragedy with Margare is that the beach is amazing - fine golden sands - what a waste of a natural selling point.
Actually, what pissed me most off about Margate was that it was January and you had to pay to park along the seafront - no wonder half the place was boarded up. Don't Councils ever think outside the box? Great Yarmouth isn't much better for this.

I'm sure their hotels will be picked up sharpish as well.
