easyJet

So it has now been 4 weeks since I applied for vouchers after my trip was cancelled by the aforementioned airline. I am still to receive them. They are bloody vouchers - it should be an instant thing! No money is being transacted and they are still holding it. Friends in the airline say that it shouldn't take more than a couple of days to get sorted.

I've been on hold to their customer services for probably 4 hours across the last two days.

Nothing.

Now having worked in this industry for my whole career, I do try and defend it where I can, but this is indefensable. You wonder why the general public treat such airlines with such distrust?

Anyone else having similar problems?

Are you sure its not just a credit on your Easyjet account?

Thats what I had with Ryanair.

Vouchers should be automatic. BA cancelled my August flights a couple of weeks back, there's a little back way of getting through to a human, less than 10 minutes on hold, Avios refunded a few minutes later, money element 48 hours later.

Did assume this was about them cutting 5000 jobs, Southend, Stansted and Newcastle. Shame, Southend is a lovely little airport.

That is a disaster.

Yep, they won't base airplanes or staff there, and will serve from other airports. The thing is that's fine for Newcastle when they'll have Portuguese staff operating Faro - Newcastle - Faro, but Southend & Stansted (to a lesser extent) will suffer from as Easyjet now have a stranglehold over Gatwick with BA & Virgin (amongst many airlines) pulling out. So lower costs serving routes where people will go from the cheapest airport which will be Gatwick.

On the subject of the airline themselves, they have £2.4bn in the bank. At this rate they will run out of cash by the end of the winter.

There's a reason why it's a "lovely little airport".

Well, they can't expand the runway so can't take anything bigger than an A319 can they? And only handle a few planes at any one time. But surely doors open to being on a train into London isn't quicker than any other airport in the country (cept London City?).

Well yeah, the point I was trying to make is that they will only be a nice little airport whilst they're not busy and not profitable and not a desirable place to fly from.

I don't know the economics of running an airport (or airline admittedly) but the ease of access to North & East London & the City by train, and the small queues is an overwhelming positive. I think i've managed to avoid Luton for over 20 years now, and Stansted for 10. It's almost like good consumer experience does not equate to profit in the travel industry.

Ryanair were attempting to blacklist people for doing that. They denied it was ever the case, but having worked with them at a commercial level, it is something they try and do all of the time.

This is Ryanair we're talking about... nothing they've done in the last 20 years have made any consumer sense.

They have an uncanny habit though of getting people to fill up their tubes though.

Must be millions of refunds/vouchers they need to sort out, probably doing it based on departure date, so they are probably working still through March/April/May now.

Refunds I can understand, but with vouchers nothing is being transacted.

Ryanair have to process 10 million flight bookings a month. easyJet will be something like 7-8 million.

But even with vouchers they'll need to either collect more or refund back some money unless the flight is exactly the same cost no? I suppose also they'll need people to do the switch, if they've furloughed everyone they may not have the man power.
