What a blasé answer from Work and Pensions Minister Therese Coffey. She really needs to go away and do some research considering she should have known about the tapers, NI etc. At least Abbott wasn't actually making decisions that directly affect people's lives when she screwed up as she was in opposition.

And the moron strikes by suggesting Chris Whitty should resign for supporting vaccination for 12-15yo.

I think it would be better if Tory MP Fysh actually looked at who makes the final decision on this.

I had Coffey down as 5th favorite for the chop in the much promised 'sackings of the useless' that were promised pre-xmas after Williamson, Dowding, Whatley and Fox.

Now that Raab has been added to the list she (if indeed that's what it is) has actually moved down to 6th.

Hancock was being saved as the fall guy...by the way.

A quick question for the anti-Tories on here. Do you hate this Tory government more than previous ones? I’m quite surprised by some of the vitriol, so just wondering if that is new or if it has always been that way for you.

Yes. They are terrible. The cabinets we had under Thatcher-Major and then Blair Brown were absolute sages compared to the rank amateurs we’ve had since then.

As someone said below only the coalition government kind of worked and the more context we get, the clearer it becomes that Clegg was the brains of that operation (gawd help us).

But I was more thinking about how hateful they are. I don’t generally hate people for being shit. I dislike Blair more than Boris, for instance.

Thatcher - The genesis of many problems, a heartless government.
Major - Had to deal with the first few time bombs, financially disastrous, a soulless government.
Cameron/Clegg - Dealing with Labour's time bombs, a woolly government.
Cameron - Found new and interesting ways to fuck things up, a smug cowardly government.
May - Reached new levels of woolly-ness, a dead sheep in the road government.
Boris - Confusion reigns, a clusterfuck of a government.

Boris is incompetent, Thatcher was deliberate so she tops the list.

I think Cameron and Osborne deserve more contempt because they knew what they were doing was stupid and disastrous and would ruin lives but they did it anyway. I think at this point the people in charge of the Tories have just decided to see what they can get away with for a laugh - they have tapped into our deep national self-hatred.

Yes. I quite liked the others. I even voted for them. This is all traced back to the referendum. Looking back I don't know if I'm stunned that Leave won or whether I should be more shocked they didn't win by more.

Christ if that vote had have gone the other way where would we be now. Imagine the people sacked off into the long grass for ever more.

Why's Farage still in the country?

There is no doubt we would have been better off now if Remain had won, but assuming it was a narrow victory I don’t think it would have calmed anything. The opposite probably.

That was the genius of Cameron’s plan. Either he lost or a narrow result poisoned British politics for a generation anyway. Once the referendum was announced we were pretty screwed (barring an overwhelming Remain victory).

Still, at least Cameron has made a few bob since leaving office.

Farage would have bloody loved it! Leavers would have realised they were in a very very big group. Media would have doubled down on anti EU rhetoric. UKIP vote share would have gone up and mainstream politicians would have moved toward euroscepticism.

Then one day there would be a catalyst. Maybe an EU bail out. Or Covid recovery fund. Or EU’s slow vaccine roll out. Or an EU citizen killing someone here. Doesn’t matter what it was. And it would all start again.

Ironically farage may have loved it, more than the actual result itself. He would have kept his job as a “European bureaucrat”, the people he claimed to hate. I never did get that one.

But that would have been the peak of UKIP, they’d have stayed on the edge spouting bollocks and being ignored. No I think it would have been the end of it, Johnson would have been fucked of

Us leaving the EU was a sign of the political system we have here failing badly

I quite liked the coalition with the Tories/Lib Dems but the Tory Govts have all been a bit shit since and focused too much on their dogma/loony sections of the party. It says something when Theresa May was the best of the lot imo. This current mob are a fucking liability for the country.

John Major's Govt was alright as well but the Tories at that point had run out of time.
