He doesn’t stand out as talented compared with the company he is in. He isn’t going to do fancy flicks and tricks because of the risk facing that level of talent, but watch them play five a side in training - even five of the journeymen centre backs would wipe the floor with your average Sunday league players.
It’s in their heads too - they can react quicker because they see the picture clearer and quicker.
I remember being in awe when I saw us play Burton with Nigel Clough. I didn’t really rate him in the pro game but he made instant perfectly weighted passes to players behind him and all over. And watching Ray Wilkins and Martin Allen, long retired, taking the piss out of our younger players in a testimonial. The kids were athletic, but the old pros were too quick of feet and thought.
I miss the Guinness Sevens , when you got pros playing for fun and to take the piss out of each other with little jeopardy if it went wrong.

Yep, Nigel Clough at burton never left the centre circle and just ran the game. Also attempted to ref it most times too!
