Can someone explain that one to me please?
And then explain how, if we're supposedly run by 'educated' people why lessons are never learned?
Because we live in a country that is based on class rather than ability. So you get people like Jacob Rees Mogg who are educated, but still as thick as pigswill, at the top based on connections. In your everyday life you will probably meet people way more gifted than the likes of Rees-Mogg. He just happened to have a famous, rich and connected father. Sadiq Khan, on the other hand, was born into humble origins but worked his way up, without the connections and riches, swimming against the tide. The former has done much to ruin our country, often through not understanding stuff. The latter has improved air quality for ordinary Londoners. Diane Reay wrote a book called 'Miseducation'. It's a good read and tells how the education system is rigged to perpetuate the class system.
On the PIE thing....agreed. It was a disgusting organisation. I remember reading about it in the 1980s (in the newspaper). I mentioned it on here last year and I had to look it up just to confirm that I had read such a thing all those years ago. Quite unbelievable. Not all paedophiles are thick and from the council estates. They are clever, they are manipulative and get themselves in positions of trust and power (Saville is your most obvious example). We are taught never to discount anyone from suspicion. Ofsted will often ask safeguarding scenarios where the abuser is a manger or higher. Paedophile rings can have senior local figures in them, making them hard to infiltrate and challenge.
