Good long thread here, but basically this bloke argues the net zero zealots who are in charge are giving up our prosperity on a vain hope that the world follows us

Net zero at this point in time is for idiots.
The Chinese will look and hope we can continue to pay them to pollute for us. 04-10-2024, 12:33 PM (This post was last modified: 04-10-2024, 12:34 PM by Barnet Ben.) in response to #75331 Baldman Wrote: Good long thread here, but basically this bloke argues the net zero zealots who are in charge are giving up our prosperity on a vain hope that the world follows us Gosh, I wonder who is paying him...? The reason prices are higher here is because of the strange way grid prices work. Renewables are very cheap to produce. Solar stupidly so. But the rules are they have to be priced at the same rate as gas. That's why we pay more, not whatever some Tory mouthpiece for the oil industry says. 04-10-2024, 12:58 PM in response to #75331 Baldman Wrote: Good long thread here, but basically this bloke argues the net zero zealots who are in charge are giving up our prosperity on a vain hope that the world follows us China has more renewable energy capacity than any other country, and is on track to meet its 2030 goal of 1,200 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2025. In 2023, China installed 293 gigawatts of wind and solar, bringing its total capacity to 1,050 gigawatts. In 2023, clean power made up 35% of China's electricity mix, with wind and solar accounting for 16%. Hydropower is the largest single source of clean power, at 13%. In 2023, China generated 37% of the world's wind and solar electricity, which is enough to power Japan. Anyway, always good to hear from a Tory MP, as they're so few and far between these days. You'd have thought they wouldn't have time to post such bollocks, given the large workload the opposition has, spread amongst a small number of people. Why 'zealots', by the way? 'Giving up our prosperity'? ** Chortle ** 04-10-2024, 01:11 PM in response to #75331 Barnet Ben Wrote: Gosh, I wonder who is paying him...? Well done Des. 04-10-2024, 01:29 PM in response to #75340 Barnet Ben Wrote: Gosh, I wonder who is paying him...? I don’t understand. If wind is cheaper, why does the government have to subsidise it? It knows that wind and solar is cheaper than fossil fuels, that’s why it is not building any coal fired power stations. Well done China, we’ll have this climate stuff licked in no time thanks to them. 04-10-2024, 01:41 PM in response to #75347 Baldman Wrote: That’s amazing. China is smart. Exactly this, whilst China are the biggest polluters right now they're also the biggest investors in Green energy. It means they'll hit net zero before we do plus will also benefit from selling their technologies and energy to the rest of the world. As ever, China takes the long term 20-100 year time horizon view on things to make sure decisions now come with long term benefits. Whilst, in the west we fall over ourselves with short termism, letting big opportunities go by because all we can think about is election to election. Democracy kind of sucks. |
