I'm happy to use fossil fuels until a viable cost effective alternative becomes a reality. I guess a comparison would be the gas deal with Qatar, but you can pay up and ship in from elsewhere. A lot of ships enter and exit the Med, narrowest point’s 20 miles or so (Tarifa in Spain), you’d imagine they’d micro bore a tunnel for that carry on but that wouldn’t be cheap. Nor would the copper but I think hvdc cable would be dearer than for hvac but don’t know. It doesn’t go to Spain - it’s all under the sea from Morocco to Devon (it even goes round the end and lands on the North coast near Barnstaple because it needs a monster power line to plug into.) Pretty sure all interconnectors are DC. Can’t remember why.
