It would also rely on our governments using the veto and the evidence is that the establishment was/is completely out of step with the population on European integration. In essence the EU could not have done anything to sway your mind. It is just excuse after excuse for the behaviour of the vote leave government. The people telling you fibs were in positions of prominence from 2016. Some of them are in the current Tory party. None of what they said would happen happened. You can't blame covid for that. In fact Covid sorted out immigration for a bit. The beliefs you were left with were the unworkable bits because, when push came to shove, the EU looked after it's interests, just as you were told they would. You also found out that English superiority is a notion in people's heads. 05-12-2024, 02:45 PM in response to #83167 DesCartes Wrote: He represented five asylum seekers as a barrister in a case against the government, under this country's legal system. It’s been used badly. That cost a government it’s job. Whereas we could do nothing about EU immigration. So you admit that the EU looks after itself, not the interests of the population, certainly not our population. Marvellous, we are getting somewhere. 05-12-2024, 04:05 PM in response to #83198 Meerkat Wrote: Absolutely no one thought Cameron had got anything worthwhile. I agree. I didn't think it was that great but what we have now is worse. Higher immigration, trade not as good as it could have been. EU citizens tended to stay more short term. Now we have non-EU citizens coming to settle longer. The EU looked after itself means the organisation, the governments and the population. The UK government looked after itself and ignored the population. You keep telling me that. Johnson is OK and making money. All the others are ok. You are left telling me how immigration is a problem still and how you had to get rid of the government that promised so much...because they delivered none of it 06-12-2024, 09:33 AM in response to #83205 NWS Wrote: I agree. Look on here, this place has taken a right Nazi shift in recent months. Seems to me that more and more people think immigration is too high now and politicians are having to talk about it (although they are shit scared of stopping it because of the recession that will inevitably follow). |
