906k net migration in the 12 months to June 2023...that is insane given their programme of cutting back on services and not building any of the infrastructure they promised (e.g. the 40 hospitals).

How did they let this happen on their watch? I believe immigration is net positive for the country thing but not at these absolutely bonkers numbers. Starmer and co have a big job on their hands to get the numbers down but also to try and play catch up improving services and infrastructure to cope with the millions Boris and Sunak let in with no real plan to accomodate them all.

Probably not a hard stop, there will be key jobs that need to be sourced from abroad.

But yes, an immediate tightening on immigration is required combined with getting people back to work to fill some of the void. And, identifying the areas where we're having to import skills and coming up with a programme to produce more people who are qualified from those already here.

I hope all the Boris fanboys are re-adjusting their views on him.

From 1998 to 2020 it looks like we osscilatef between 150k to 250k net immigration per year. Some may say that is still too high but that at least was the long term trend regardless of the party in charge.

But, then Boris, the useless fuck, brought in his new immigration system once thr EU transition period ended in 2020, and the net migration numbers coming have exploded.

Year to June 2021 - 254,000
Year to June 2022 - 634,000
Year to June 2023 - 906,000
Year to June 2024 - 728,000

For comparison, the June 12 to June 22 average net migration under EU rules were 221k per year.

So, leaving the EU and replacing it with Bojo's/vote leave genius system has meant net migration is up by 1.638m since it was implemented.

This should illustrate just how bad the post EU system has been....in June 2016 (month of referendum) the total immigration number (832k) was lower than the 2023 net migration number (906k)!

So much for taking back control. They literally took a system that half the country was very unhappy with and made it 3 times worse! How is Boris, Cummings and co not being stuck in the stocks and having rotten veg pelted at them daily?

Welcome to the 'Racists' Club. We are a great bunch but you need to know that spouting this sort of sense will get you labelled as a Nazi by an oddball.

To be accurate, it should be the Xenophobe club. Whilst i've no doubt there's plenty of racists in the club, having concerns about net migration numbers has xenophobia as its starting point.

The other trouble with the club is the people on here that formed it tend to still support the bell ends that made things much worse.

I should add...i'm pro immigration. 100k to 200k a year net immigration combined with sufficent investment in services and infrastructure is beneficial to the country.

But, in the last 4 years 4.353m new people have come to the country with only 1.829m leaving. That's just gonna piss people off, but further strains on services and infrastructure and cause racial and cultural divideds.
