Just this week in a staff meeting the topic of the British museum came up, and TCMNOS retorted 'there's nothing British about it, it's all Greek & Egyptian'.

Neither myself nor my Glaswegian colleague had any immediate counter.

Should have called her what she clearly is - a museum fascist.

It was incredibly windy when I was up there in August 2023. Wind was whipping up fires all around the city too, but fortunately a north easterly blowing smoke sort of past Athens. Really dry heat, so although it was 37 degrees you hardly even sweated getting up there. And, my family all stayed in the hotel. Bliss. I also managed to buy an "Oedipus The Original Motherfucker" t shirt for a mate's 50th on the way up. I very discreetly put it on for a selfie in front of the Parthenon, thinking if the Greeks catch me doing this they will be sure to throw me in jail. Probably as brave as those flag-nicking lads.

First time I ever went up it was 43 degrees and lunchtime. This was after a litre or so of ouzo the night before.

I was 21. If I tried that now the strays would be picking at my dessicated carcas by the side if the road.
